Bringing successful authors and illustrators to the children of Bozeman!

2016 Writing Contest and Illustration Exhibition Information:

For the past seven years the Bozeman Public Library has been celebrating children’s
literature and early literacy through our one-day Children’s Festival of the Book (CFOB), sponsored by the Bozeman Public Library Foundation. On Saturday, November 5, 2016, we will welcome illustrator of the New York Times bestseller Last Stop on Market Street, along with authors Susan Adrian, Kent Davis and Michele Corriel.

For the lasPen and Inkt several years  the Children’s Festival of the Book and the Country Bookshelf  have also sponsored a Children’s and Teens’ Writing Contest, for youth ages 7 to 18, and we plan to make this a traditional part of the CFOB. This year’s writing contest will seek submissions about an unforgettable world you have created! We’ll welcome entries in fiction and poetry due October 3, 2016. Winners will have their entries posted on this website for public viewing, be recognized during the 2016 Children’s Festival of the Book, and receive prizes from local business sponsors!

Young writers are encouraged to write a piece set in a memorable world that you have created.  Think about specific sensory details, mood and atmosphere…where will you take your readers?  The entry form is now available and can be accessed below. The form contains explicit details about the contest including the prompt and submission expectations, and all submissions must be accompanied by a completed form. Typed double-spaced page limits are: grades 2-5, up to 2 pages; grades 6-8, up to 5 pages; grades 9-12, up to 8 pages.
